Baseball may be going through an epidemic right now. Does the trouble in America's pastime tell us anything about our nation as a whole?

The test scores are out and guess what... the U.S isn't doing all that hot. The question is, should we start to panic, or is it time to take a step back and look again at what's going on.

Whenever I get sick – I mean fever and everything, not just the sniffles – I tend to think back to what it was like to get a cold when I was younger. When you’re kid and you get sick, you used to look forward to missing school. You got to stay home all day, read your books or comics, play your video games, watch TV… when you’re older, getting sick is just a nuisance that gets in the way of you doing the things you need to do. There’s even a good chance that if you're sick you’ll go to work (despite what they always tell you about not doing that) because you can’t afford to miss the days. Anyway, all that is to say that today I will continue to talk about education…

It's about that time of year here int eh states, when K-12 students start heading back to school. I personally have long thought that the variance in the exact time of year was always quite odd. Primarily in the south is where schools start in early - mid August. The northeast waits until after Labor Day in September. At any rate, I think this is an appropriate time to share some thoughts on the state of the education system here in the U.S.
