Patriot's Day
You'll be forgiven for not recognizing the name of this holiday, the newest one on the American calendar. No, it has nothing to do with football.
It is named in honor of the solemn, horrific events of September 11, 2001. There is much reflection and remembrance that should be had today. It should be a day for remember those many lives lost on that frightful day. And it should be a day that to the best of your ability you take the time to participate in one of this nation's most respectable traditions of charity and service. We may argue, we may fight, and we may stray down the wrong path from time to time. However, days like this are supposed to remind us of our better natures. So lend someone a hand, volunteer somewhere if you can. It is the single best way to honor those who died that day twelve years ago, and cherish that sense of community fostered in the aftermath. It's a terrible shame that we could not sustain those feelings from then on forward, but for at least today, perhaps we can reclaim them for at least a little while.
