Lunar Eclipse by Technology

I'm just gonna whine today. I'm gonna whine a bit because something happened and now I'm kinda pissed, and the only thing I can do for the moment is whine. My original plan today was to release another new piece of artwork. It was to preempt the release later in the day the first two chapters of the Book of the Shadows story associated with the image. This was all to center around the Third Moon Saga.

Unfortunately fate as deemed by the computer gods has intervened and once again to block my path. For months now I have been nursing a number of relatively minor issues. Among those was my Blu-Ray drive ceasing to read anything but Blu-Rays. There is also the fact that my computer won't sleep.

This all led up to last week with one of my two GPUs started showing abnormally high temps and causing some slight performance issues. Thought I had a workaround, which was basically to stop using that card.

So, starting Wednesday I tried to use a DVD drive from an older build with an adapter
(it was IDE, and my board has only SATA). Long story short, that isn't working. It's getting power, but it's not transmitting data. PC isn't even showing it connected. So, I need to just but a new one.

What's the big deal? Well, I've been getting a RunDLL error all of a sudden. What's more, my CanoScan scanner, the scanner I use for digitizing my drawings, isn't working. Windows Update is showing an update available, but throws an error when I try to download it. Tried re-installing the drivers from the Canon website. They've apparently installed, but nothing doing.

So tried a system restore. The earliest valid date I had was the end of October. That seems to have fixed the GPU problem, oddly enough. Don't know what changes would have taken place the last two weeks to start up a problem with my GPU, so I'll have to look into that a bit more.

So, for the time being my sharing of Third Moon is on hold while I sort out these PC issues. Given my work schedule I can't say how long it will take before I have the time to focus on any such repairs or debugging. Plus I now have to budget for a new Blu-Ray player. I have a potential workaround (complicated by the fact my laptop gave out a little more than a month ago - another longstanding woe I won't get into).
So, sorry for the whining post. I can still type, so barring something at that level goes wrong I can keep up my posts. But for the sake of the continuity I've intended for the discussion of Third Moon, I will have to put that on hole for the time being. If I can manage a fix, I'll target Tuesday for sharing the post I'd intended for today. If not, I'll get on to another topic. Until then, take it easy.
