The Second Star Saga
It's been a long week for me, so I'll be ending it on a bit of a lighter note. I've decided I will be doing a full preview for one of my stories next week. Tentatively that will be next Friday. The title, as this post indicates, is the Second Star Saga.
I was holding back a little on giving any details on this one for a few reasons. First of, i was in the midst of making real progress on it so I didn't want to spoil ideas before I had a chance to forge them. Second, given the timing of global events in the real world in proximity to when I started offering up details on my various stories in progress I didn't want to give the impression that I was playing to those real-world events.
So, to be clear, the tale of this story I am about to share is in no way a reflection of, a critique of, or an allegory towards international events in the last few years.
The Second Star Saga is broken into two major sagas. The first is the Old Empire Saga, and the second is the New Empire Saga.
The Old Empire Saga starts with a number of different events all converging together in 2013, all of it started on December 21st, 2012 in Russia. Anew revolution has begun which looks to overthrow a corrupt democratic regime, and replace it with the former aristocracy of the Romanovs. These new would-be revolutionaries are of the belief that the way in which the Romanovs were deposed by the Bolsheviks invited a curse on Russia that persisted for nearly a hundred years, and that by finding the lost descendants of the Romanovs and re-installing them as the head of a new monarchy, that Russia can attain true greatness and prosperity.
Months later, in Japan, a school girl is found dead on the day of what was supposed to be her first day of high school. A CIA agent shows up weeks later for a continued investigation, carrying with him the secret that the dead girl was a suspected assassin and member of a criminal syndicate that was destroyed not too long ago. However, no one can seem to figure out who killed her.
The main characters are a pair of friends, Anastasia Kurae and Serina Arenzai. Anastasia was a friend of a friend towards the slain girl, and Serina transferred into the school a couple months after the opening day incident. Together Anastasia and Serina will navigate their changing world which is becoming increasingly marred by the violence and chaos of the revolution in Russia which is spilling from its borders and destabilizing the entire world as the Romanov heir is sought.
Old Empire is a fairly ambitious story. It was started in 2011 in looking to take advantage of the 2012 Mayan Calendar doomsday prophecy. Much of the story is annotated by allusions to the concept of the end of the world and precisely what that would like like, framing the entire Old Empire saga as a the way in which the world ends.
To help the story along it borrows predominantly from three specific anime/manga stories; Full Metal Panic, Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally, and Betterman. primarily it is from Betterman and FMP that I draw inspiration, even porting several characters and the concept of the Whispered and Dual Kind. I also borrow a couple characters from Persona 3, alongside it's similar base concept.
The New Empire Saga takes place long into the future. In this future the New Romanov Empire has been in power ever since the end of the Old Empire Saga, an uninterrupted period of rule that has extended over the entire globe and into space. This story starts on the night of the celebration of the the ascension to the throne by the current empire's monarch. However, something unusual has happened as well.
For years at a time the monarchs sleep in a sort of suspended animation. A child of the royal family, however, mysteriously is awoken early, instilled with the duty of ruling the empire as she is the only member of the royal family awake and law dictates that no matter what a member of the royal family must be entrusted the rule of the empire if they are awake. The young ruler, who knows nothing of the world, let alone how to rule it, must learn everything they need to know while surviving a long standing plot against the Romanovs.
The New Empire Saga has not had a lot of development as of yet. Only a handful of characters and a couple story lines have been decided on. Part of it will be based on Crest o f the Stars, with a bit of Trinity Blood mixed in.
If all goes well I'll be able to show off the promo picture of the story when I announce that the special sneak peek chapters are up for reading. No promise though, since I'm not quite sure if I'll finish it in time. The story itself is well planned out. In fact much of the planning is set already since the story does not try to be too lengthy or complex. That being said I don't really know how long i will be working before it achieves significant strides towards completion.
Either way, look forward to next week when I'll do a bit more discussion ahead of the release, including a post detailing a character or two.
