The Story Behind Anzu Valentine

As is usually the case I like to share details about the art pieces I share, but try not to overlap them with my holiday greetings or other such announcements. So, here are the details on my Valentine's Day share;
The concept developed while I was working on writing Book of the Shadows: Overture. I'll go ahead and spoil a bit of the story since it's so far into the story. There is a scene where the M.C, Yukito Tsukishiro, is out along the beach and spots who he thinks is his homeroom teacher and Astronomy Club adviser, Mana Anzai, in casual clothes. But she isn't, instead "someone who just looks a lot like her, sorta like a twin".

At any rate at the time I was considering a story similar to the Kurokami anime. I pretty much abandoned that particular angle to the story, but kept the idea of multiple people with apparently the same face. This image emerged as an idea for what a casually dressed Anzu, perhaps out on a date, would look like.

Most of the pieces I do tend to have my female characters in elaborate garbs. Their dresses are long and frilly or fluffy, etc. Being that this was supposed to be a casual setting, I wanted to keep her outfit simple but still classy. That's why I chose a simple blouse and a skirt just short of knee length. The top has a little bit of a pleat to it, and it is a little short, showing her belly button. I wasn't sure what kind of footwear to give her. Ultimately I decided on the laced up boots since it's not something I do often.

The background is simple, thematically. The most popular scene for romantic settings is often a beach at sunset. I'll claim that's the case, but given the larger story behind Anzu Rosencraft I'll probably do something silly like make it a rising moon instead. She is supposed to be sitting on a concrete wall behind a beach.

The boxes on the ground, in her lap, and the box of chocolate next to her are all there just to convey the Valentine's Day aspect. I'll leave it to imagination as to what's inside the box on her lap. The slanted text on the box of chocolates says "Happy Valentine" in Vivaldi text. almost couldn't fit it in, and getting the slant right was a little worrisome.

That's that. If there are more questions you can leave a comment or contact me directly. Again, hope you like it and that you have a great Valentine's Day.
