Strange Parallels
Not a long post today, but it's about something that will rarely happen.
My brother and I used to laugh about a slightly odd thing that sometimes would happen to us. We would sometimes be sitting and just talking about any sort of thing. During the course of some of these just normal moments, we would come up with ideas.
Now, you're already thinking this is the start of some story about us doing something stupid like an outrageous prank or something like that. but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking like invention ideas. We wouldn't take our own ideas seriously though. We would think up something and then merely let it go as something someone probably already did, or an otherwise stupid idea. Occasionally some of those ideas would come to pass at the hands of someone else.
Honestly it's not that big a deal. It happens all the time. GoDaddy.com had an ad campaign all about the fact that sometimes people have ideas they think are original and no one else in the world could have, so they sit on it and wait. Only for someone else to make the first move on that very idea.
It happens. Probably all the time.
So what does this have to do with me at this very moment?
As I've noted in a previous post, I had started a story back in 2011, the Second Star Saga of the Book of the Shadows. It focuses on the idea that Anastasia Romanov survived the massacre of her family in secret and that on December 21, 2012 a revolution starts in Russia to overthrow the existing regime in preparation for finding and installing a new Romanov dynasty under the rule of the ancestor of Anastasia.
We are clearly far from 2012 at this point, so that's not the point here. A component to my story going forward had to do with Ukraine. Basically part of the development I had planned was that the Russian government forces, after much struggle, would manage to hold off and push back the rebel forces. The rebels, fearing being wiped out, would retreat to Ukraine. Shortly thereafter the descendant of Anastasia shows up in Kiev announcing that she has already taken control of Ukraine and abolished the constitution, replacing it with an autocratic regime under her control. From there I was going to have an East/West split in Ukraine as the rebel forces sided under the new Romanov dynasty in the west centered around Kiev, and the Russian forces pushing in from the east.
This plot line was established early on, pretty much at the end of 2011, early 2012. Given how things have started spiraling in Ukraine, it's a little odd. Not really saying anything more than that. Simply that I ended up with a bit of an unfortunate congruence. Let us all hope the real-life issues in Ukraine are resolved without war.
