Finished Version, Mana Anzai

Here it is, the finished product. Mana Anzai.

Over the last several weeks I've spent time coloring in this image I drew several years ago. The concept is very simple; a Dark Magician Girl based character from one of my fan-fictions, as she appears in that story as a school teacher.

The original drawing was completed several years ago, I believe more than five at this point. I wanted to go with a highly recognizable outfit for this costume, but something somewhat unusual so that it isn't too boring, which is why I chose the teaching garb worn by Yoko Littner as her alias Yomako in Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann.

When it came to adding color, I started with the hair and eye color I denoted for her in the fan-fiction, and began building out the color for her clothes afterwards based on a desire to keep the colors different from Yoko's original outfit, and in keeping with a loose fit with the image of Dark Magician Girl. That is why reds and blues dominate the overall image (though there is the loss of the yellow golden blonde of DMG's hair).

I don't have a firm number, but the total edit time for this project was around 6 hours. During that time I had to manage a funky driver and operational issue with my Wacom, so I didn't get to release this one last week like I was originally planning. But, it's still before Labor Day, so I'll still meet the back-to-school deadline. You an find larger versions of this image on Minitokyo.net and DeviantArt.com.

Good luck to all the students. Hope your teachers and professors are as pleasant as this one.
