Anniversary Celebration Round Two, The Crimson Princess

Welcome to art project number two for the weekend. Last October I awarded Inori of my Third Moon Saga the title of most frightening/evil character of the Book of the Shadow Series. Here is the first artwork I have featuring the deadly undead queen
To start off, a quick refresher on Inori. Her full name, in the ludicrous mindset that started this saga, is Inori Priscilla Testarossa Arsene Yukina. She is an immortal vampire, each name representing a lengthy period of sleep with the name taken up upon her awakening. She is the female lead of the Third Moon Saga, which revolves around her and the young man Alexander Kuroshiki who has become her unwitting slave do their seemingly chance encounter.

The event that leads to Inori's infamy is the source of her nickname of "Crimson Princess". Called "Blood Reign" it is an ever-expanding catalytic cloud that releases a rain which causes the crystallization of virtually any blood it can come in contact with, and uses the energy released from the process to sustain and grow and sustain itself. Three days after using this ability, Inroi successfully created a storm of the blood rain that covered the entire planet and wiped out over 90% of all life; human, animal, Exa(monsters), etc.

So, in terms of pedigree no other character I've written is as monumental in the body count as her, at least so far as directly written in a story - Izanami, even Anzu, are worse, but their tales of mass murder are more... ephemeral... as they're alleged to have happened but not confirmed. Later in Third Moon Inori does other morally questionable things, to put it lightly.

My original plans for Third Moon were less dark than they ended up. I did want it to be a darker, more twisted, story than my others which were usually upbeat and optimistic. I wanted to find a story to fit Inori of Guilty Crown into as well. The idea of playing the two-sided nature of Mana and Inori out of Guilty Crown as the starring character in my story was enticing, even though I broke away from the original concept quite a bit.

Inori is a proud woman, somewhere over five hundred years old. But she is trapped in an eternally youthful body, forever in the guise of a teenage girl. The princess part of her title isn't just for show - her mother was the leader of the the clan, which lorded power over other groups of Exas (Third Moon's title for monsters and non-human supernatural beings). She is refined, and furthermore takes little interest in the world or what others are doing in it. As such Inori has a presence of being always tired, lackadaisically disinterested in pretty much anything else.

At the same time, she is also aware of her own beauty and seeks to maintain a certain elegance no matter where she is, who's around, or what time it is. So, even though she is supposed to be alone in her room at night, she's merely lazing back in a chair, wearing a long, elegant dress. Her dress is adorned with jewels. She's even still wearing a pair of bracelets on her right wrist. But, she did take off her shoes. I debated about adding them in, but didn't think there was much reason to spill over to another page just for that right now.

But while she may be beautiful and enchanting to look at, you do have to be wary of this shinning bit of darkness. as evidenced by her hands, she has some fearsome claws that are not merely for show. The way her slit-like eyes peer at the viewer further demonstrate this flower isn't exactly what it appears. The butterfly gliding to her outstretched hand adds to the ephemeral, supernatural, quality of her. To be honest, the butterfly thing is a little campy, a tad on the overdone side, so I might remove it if I ever do get around to coloring this one. But, for now, I'll let it stick around.

Alright, so that does it for number two of this weekend. Getting the coloring done on this one would be harder than with my last image since I'll be coming up with the full color palette on my own, but it's likely to have a lot of reds. Inori of Third Moon usually wears red, and generally has an affinity towards red in her design sense, so the couch and bit of side table will have a red or reddish tinge to it. It's definitely on my coloring list, but it'll be a task to do if some of the lighting ideas in my head are to make it to a final product. But, you know, that's part of the fun of art.
