Lynette Liquer DeVice
Lynette is a character on who a substantial part of the Book of the Shadows story focuses on. You'll learn what she looks like... for now...
When I pick back up with the Book of the Shadows publication on FanFiction.net, it will be in the midst of a storyline focused on the Rosencraft family hunting down Lynette to stave off her attempts at wreaking havoc. Her role throughout the story is - at least as I attempted it to be - is a dynamic one that has her wearing a number of hats.
From the time she is introduced into the story it's easy to tell that she was not a spur of the moment sort of character. She was brought into the story specifically to play the role that she plays. She is presented as a psychopath with an insane plot, willing to test the limits of the Rosencraft's will to avoid conflict.
But the Lynette that is drawn below is not necessarily the Lynette I originally envisioned. I say that because when I drew this picture in 2005 I had already had the idea for Lynette baked in for the story. As I've noted about other characters already, 90% of the time I know what my characters look like before I write their story. Lynette is only slightly different. Lynette's name is a hint. Kasumi Liqueur of Silent Mobius was initially who I thought of for the role of Lynette DeVice. But the Silent Mobius character didn't herself reflect the breadth of personality that I wanted for Lynette. I would have had to take the story in a different direction than I was thinking at the time. Still, I kept a bit of an eye towards Kasumi as the one, though I was certain that for it to work I'd have to do some sort of retcon later on to mesh the Lynette I wanted to introduce and the Lynette that would be influenced by Kasumi.
2005 however was the year that I started to settle myself with the idea of branching my characters a little further from the ones that inspire them. It was also the year that I started developing my plans for Drusilla. At the same time I started perusing the internet for ideas on who to base Drusilla on, and ultimately found the picture that would inspire Drusilla, I also found a picture that would inspire Lynette. Like the one for Drusilla the one for Lynette was a nameless woman. I know it'll sound a bit stupid, cliched, and like a lie, but it was her smile and her eyes that caught my attention. Sadly the image of the unnamed woman, like the one for Drusilla and for Death, were lost in a computer event. The one that inspired Drusilla is the only one I ever managed to find again, though unlike the one I had picked out for Death I did manage to retain at least a partial image of Lynette;
The original was a picture down to about her knees if memory serves correctly, maybe a little shorter than that. She was wearing a bikini with a beach horizon as the backdrop. Again, like Druislla and Death, this one did not seem to have a name attached to it, nor an anime, so searching for it again is at best a headache. For that reason I have always been a bit skeptical of keeping her to the left here as the character image for Lynette, who at this point is ostensibly free to be played by any character I want, even if that means creating one myself.
Nevertheless, I did do a piece for her back in 2005 based on that image, and this is the result;
As you can see I pretty much mimicked everything about her there and simply put her in a different outfit (again she was just wearing a bikini). The outfit was for the most part based on Yomiko Readman's outfit, that of course being Yomako of Read or Die. That choice of outfit was born directly of the fact that I had watched the original movie when it aired on TV back then - I think it was on Toonami, one of their late-night runs, but I'm not at all sure about that one bit as I know G4/TechTV ran the R.O.D TV series around that time too. The skirt in her outfit is, again if my memory serves me well, based on the outfit of one of the cards from the Orichalcos Arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh anime. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the card, but I know it was used by Yami, and I think it was his rematch against that one terminator looking guy.
A bit of a spoiler alert, Lynette will have a son (who I will for reasons that for now will remain secret base on Lelouch from Code Geass) who will share her blue hair. That shade of blue, set against the red of her eyes, is part of what drew me to the image in the first place, so no matter if I stick to her being Lynette or not I will retain those couple of features - her vibrant blue hair and red eyes. As one of my earliest art pieces with the Book of the Shadows I am a bit partial to leaving well enough alone and keeping her as she is. But, as I've repeated time enough already, I do feel some cause to change.
As always this image will be up on my DeviantArt page. There you will also find a special cleaned up version of this image - scanned and given a few photo edits to show up the lines better.
