Precursor Sketch
I started teasing a new art project last week. Here's one last tease.
This is a piece I sketched a few days ago. The reason was simple - I needed a reference and a demonstration. For the piece that I will finally share next week, I gave Drusilla a slightly different hairstyle. However, in doing so, I needed to have a better idea of what it looked like on her before settling on it. To decide if I still wanted to stick with the specific idea, I had to see what it actually looked like on her. Given the hairstyle, simply drawing her normally as she would be in the image I'm working on didn't give a particularly good view of her hairstyle. One could argue that fact alone made the question itself moot. But, nonetheless, art is a stress reliever, and I had a bit of stress that needed relieving, so a light additional art project was no big deal.
This was the resulting creation;
If you take this image, and the tease I gave last week, you can probably guess what the project I'll be sharing next week looks like. Her hair, in this given styling, was not fully visible, making it a little tough for me to get the details of it right. So, I sketched her from behind to see it better.

This is a piece devoid of really any polish. I didn't clean up many of the stray lines or erase the superfluous ones, didn't even check on the line work as a whole to be sure I got her figure, or specific angles and proportions, or anything else right. My focus was only on getting the basic image down to use as further reference. To that end, there's no doubt this was a success. For a sketch it's not a particularly poorly done one, but I can't say I have plans on doing any additional work on it either, so it is what it is.
Well, teasing is done. You can check on DeviantArt around noon EDT to see it there too if you like (if you're visiting from DA, thanks for stopping by). I know I was promising to have that piece done for this week, but life gets in the way sometimes. In any event I will have it ready next week. I'm so close I can confidently promise that. So, until then, enjoy life.
