Updated First Moon Saga, Book III

It's Saturday! Why am I here?
No, I'm not going crazy; I do know why I'm here right now. It's to share the news that three (3) chapters have been added to the Book of the Shadows, First Moon Saga, Book III. These are chapters 29, 30, and 31.

Chapter 29 is called "Flowers of Carnage". On the surface it reads something like a compressed harem or general shounen manga/anime. Yugi is put in a position where he has to decide if he is willing to accept a new life potentially thrust upon him, or resist that development. Under the surface, this chapter serves tow purposes. First, it is a test of Yugi's understanding of reality. His life has so many unusual, uncommon, flourishes, it begs the question, "does he know what the limits of his reality are right now". It's a bit underestimated, but that is probably something one should figure out ans assess each step of their life.

Second, and this goes to the question of reality, what are his goals? We can mostly assume we know what Yugi's motivations and goals are, and you'd be right for the most part, but it is necessary that those be evaluated directly within the bounds of the story. Does Yugi want power, wealth, love? For whose happiness is he working towards? Can his drive in that direction be redirected to something or someone else? We don't get a fully definitive answer here, but you do understand a lot more by the end.

Chapter 30 is called "Your Move! It's Time To Duel!". This chapter focuses on Runa. My goal in this chapter was simply to touch back a bit closer to the origins of the BotS series. Essentially at this point I realized there had not been a duel in my story since the abbreviated tournament arc. Given how important to the individual characters dueling was supposed to be, I thought it necessary to make a more routine effort in presenting that aspect. Having the paragon of dueling within this series participate in a couple duels seemed an appropriate starting point.

Beyond that, I once again needed to shine a light on the inner workings of my character's minds. Given Runa's introduction, it was made to seem as though she was the least stable member of the Rosencraft family. Showing where her emotions lie, where she feels some weakness or unease, and her loyalties. Is her loyalty limited to the two she often showers with her love, or does she have similar trust in the others? This chapter serves to prove that Runa is a part of the family, and will defend that family and her place in it.

Chapter 31 is called "Distressed Lynette". In this chapter Lynette seems to be experiencing some sort of event that she is unable to fathom despite the simplicity of events. Her memories betray her experience, it all coming to an end when someone else arrives to end her nightmare, or at the very least postpone it. As the title illustrates, it is a chapter about how Lynette finds herself in distress.

The distress Lynette finds herself in has the literary purpose of forging the mystery that will unfold throughout the arc that these chapters fall under. It serves as a hint to what happened to Lynette in her past to set her against the Rosencraft now, and reveal if there is any way she will change the path she's on.

You can start reading on FanFiction.net here. Chapters 29 and 30 are about the same length, 31 about half that length. They're pretty good reads, so I hope you enjoy them. And I hope you enjoy your long Columbus Day weekend (if it's celebrated where you are).
