End of Summer - Beach Day in Cromwell Addition

To celebrate the unofficial end of summer, one more art piece.

When I originally started the “Beach Day in Cromwell” project, it was a rather simple idea as far as many of my projects go. I had Drusilla there in her bikini, and at the time only considered adding a couple more characters – Yugi, and likely C.C or Celeste (Drusilla’s clone). But in crafting the project into the narrative of the Cromwell Universe, the event that is depicted took on new meaning, and as such became a larger affair.

Narrative wise, the project takes place on July 25th. This coincides with December 25th on Gaia Earth (Yugi’s home world), and therein coincides with Christmas. The original reasoning for that was merely to acquiesce my idea of the original piece being a “Christmas in July” themed project, the idea being that Drusilla’s swimsuit would be a Christmas theme at least in color, if not in print by way of adding holly or mistletoe design to her bikini. The concept evolved in adding the character of Hana Mutou to the story, and Drusilla’s idea of allowing the importation of the Christmas holiday as an imperial holiday (similar concept to federal holiday) on Neo Nemesis as an excuse to entertain and welcome Hana.

But, in keeping with the arc of seasons in the northern hemisphere of the real world, July is summer on Neo Nemesis, and so they are more likely to spend the day at a beach rather than frolicking in snow.

It’s at this point that I decide to have the entire of Yugi and Drusilla’s family, as well as select guests, be there as well. The purpose of the endeavor within the story is to welcome Hana unofficially into the Arenzai family. Not having her would-be brothers and sisters there would be odd. So I resolved that all of them would be represented in the image.

At that point it became a question of who would be placed where, and doing what.

Cornelia’s position is special in that she is in-between. She is the oldest of the siblings, a whole nine years older than the next closest one, which places her squarely in the most mature position of the bunch just behind her parents and “aunt” C.C. But at the same time, she is one of the children by a matter of fact, so she has a somewhat limited capacity or need to stand above her siblings when in a familial setting like this one. She is most relaxed in this sort of setting, thus I felt it was important that she had a very relaxed expression.

Other than that, she's wearing the same bathing suit she's worn in a number of official Code Geass artwork. I went with her hairstyle from early part of the series rather than the one she's in most often later on where her hair is down and she has the same braid band Drusilla has. This probably the more formal style, but it probably fits more with a beach theme than having her long hair fanning out behind her (she probably should have her hair in a bun, but... ehh, oh well).

The hand holding the can out to her is from her sister. I won't spoil the name of the sister, though. I originally wanted that part done in time for this share, but with things as they are in the real world for me right now, I just don't have the time to get it done right now. If by some miracle I have enough time to do it before the official end of summer, I'll share it then. If not, well, there's hopefully next year.

Hope you enjoy. Until next time!
